Parking & Bicycles & e-bikes & bikes
The Samson Mine Museum is located in St. Andreasberg, right beside the sports field. There is always enough parking space. Cars can park right in front of the mine. Just a few metres away, between the Glückauf-Schule and the sports field, there are more parking spots for cars and buses.
Bicycles can also be parked in the parking areas. They can be locked to the fence; we also have a lockable storage area available if needed.
Helmets and backpacks can be stored with us during the tour or museum visit. Please feel free to ask us for further information.
Toilets
In the southwestern area of the sports field, along the path to the School, there are public restrooms that can be used free of charge.
There are no public restrooms in mine or museum.
Restrooms for people with disabilities are located in the St. Andreasberg Tourist Information Center.
Information
The central point of contact for visiting all the facilities of the Montanwelten (Mining Worlds) at the Samson Mine is the information desk. This, along with the ticket office, is located at the entrance to the Mining Museum. Ticket sales for the mine tour begin 10 minutes before the tour starts; we will then escort you into the building.
Tickets for the other museums can be purchased at any time for immediate use. After purchasing a ticket for the Harz Roller Museum, a member of the museum team will escort you to the mine building where the museum is located.
Guests who have booked a guided tour of the Samson Mine can visit the Mining Museum free of charge after the tour. Since the museum's educational approach is based on the mine tour, a visit to the museum is recommended only after experiencing the Samson Mine.
National Park Visitor Center
The St. Andreasberg National Park Visitor Center is located in the former ore washing plant of the Samson Mine, approximately 50 meters below the mine buildings.
In addition to fascinating displays about the flora and fauna of the Harz National Park, there is a fantastic bat experience area and a small café.
We recommend a visit to the visitor center to Samson Mine visitors because of the attractive exhibition and to make good use of the waiting time before the next mine tour.
All information about the St. Andreasberg National Park Visitor Center, such as opening hours and events, can be found here. Admission is free.
Teaching mine & educational trail
At Beerberg in St. Andreasberg, the Roter Bär Teaching Mine and a geological-mining trail complement a visit to the mining world at the Samson Mine.
At the Roter Bär Teaching Mine, the St. Andreasberg Association for History and Antiquities, together with its Mining Working Group, has been excavating the old mining facilities since 1988. The working group has now opened up eight mines, offering an impressive insight into the mining history of St. Andreasberg from its beginnings in the 15th century to the first half of the 20th century.
During the summer months, association members offer guided tours on Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. for a donation. These tours introduce easily accessible sites (Roter Bär) but can also extend to the psychological and physical limits of authentic mining experiences from past centuries (Wennsglückt).
The teaching mine offers what are probably unique underground experiences in Germany for people with prior knowledge and mining experience.
All information about the Roter Bär Teaching mine can be found here.
In addition, an educational trail along a scenic above-ground circular route offers further information about geology and mining at Beerberg and in St. Andreasberg.
Information about the educational trail can be found here.
